The SBAI program is intending to launch a pilot activity in Ethiopia, initially, with the idea of replicating the program in other parts of Africa. This section will profile African entrepreneurs/firms seeking to undertake business projects addressing critical sectors such as renewable energy, agribusiness; education, health, sanitation, ICT, and environmental preservation among others.
PID recognizes that the problems faced by many African countries can be addressed through the use of latest technologies such as ICT; and expertise in environmental preservation and climate change mitigation. Because there are African Diaspora experts with such knowledge and who have an interest in giving back to their countries, this project seeks to encourage their participation as subject matter experts and even business partners to the entrepreneurs profiled.
PID will invite financing organizations to also view these entrepreneurs and their proposed business activities to consider possible investment. The profiles will include those who have started operations as well as start-ups. Many investment funds targeting SMEs in Africa are only willing to fund established firms. While this is understandable, start-ups also need to be supported in critical areas, as it is often in such times where innovation occurs.
