Partners in Development (PID) is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) organization located in Alexandria, Virginia. PID seeks to address critical development issues facing Africa such as economic empowerment of women and youth through the promotion of social entrepreneurship as well as addressing the technical assistance and access to finance needs of Small and Medium Enterprises or (SMEs).
PID also has the objective of promoting the use of Information Communications Technologies (ICT) in its programs with the objective of promoting the use of latest technologies to deliver technical assistance. In addition, we seek to encourage local entrepreneurs to devise ways to use these technologies to develop innovative products and services for their communities.
PID has a specific strategy of collaborating with the African Diaspora. We believe that they have critical roles in assisting developing countries to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). They are already making a big impact on the lives of people in their respective countries of origin by sending regular remittances to support family and relatives. The African Diaspora also have the potential to provide valuable expertise and knowledge to local enterprises, nonprofit organizations organizations in their respective countries.
PID seeks to mobilize the African Diaspora to become development partners with the objective of involving them in short-term capacity building activities targeting the local private sector; and NGOs. PID also seeks to involve the African Diaspora in youth employment schemes involving their financial and technical support using information technology/Internet.
